Dyslexic Test – Questions & Answers

Kostenlose Immobilienbewertung

Introduction

There are so many questions that are being asked about a dyslexic test. Testing is a real source of interest or concern to lots of people. It is hardly surprising really when you consider how beneficial a clear diagnosis of dyslexia will be to those that are affected. In response to that, I have decided to write another article in which I provide more answers to everybody’s basic concerns! I really hope that the questions that are answered in this article are the same questions that you have whizzing through your mind.

1. What Happens in a Dyslexia Test?

For the purposes of this answer we will presume that you are taking it in front of a psychologist, although there are alternatives. The test will take anywhere between four and six hours. Ideally you will complete the test in one day- but again, you might have options. There will be lots of breaks within this time. A dyslexic test is actually a series of smaller separate tests that assess a wide range of your abilities.

2. Is there a Free Internet Test?

Put simply, yes there are free tests on the Internet. However, these will not be able to diagnose you but can only highlight dyslexia as a possibility. These tests are very short and so they cannot be taken too seriously.

3. What Support Can My Child with Dyslexia Receive in Exams?

Children, with an official diagnosis of dyslexia (and with an official statement detailing these needs) are entitled to extra support in exams. For some children, this may mean extra time and for other children it might entail having a scribe- an adult who a child dictates to in an exam.

4. I am an adult. I think I am dyslexic- should I get tested?

I think this depends how you are coping with your difficulties. If you have devised ways to lessen their impact and you are managing OK, then perhaps there is no reason to have an official diagnosis. If however, your life is incredibly tough because of these difficulties, then a diagnosis is essential as it will help you emotionally and practically.

5. I am an adult. I have just been diagnosed with dyslexia. Should my employer help me?

In both the USA and the UK employers are duty bound to provide additional support to people with dyslexia. It is an essential part of each country’s disability laws. It helps if you have been honest about your dyslexia from the time that you joined the firm or the time that you were diagnosed with it. Employers need to support employees with dyslexia because otherwise they are breaking the law but also, it is only with additional support that you can carry out your work duties satisfactorily.

6. I have just been diagnosed with borderline dyslexia. What does it mean?

As a result of a dyslexic test, you have been shown to have a very mild form of dyslexia. You might just confuse two letters in your reading or spelling (instead of confusing ten). The good news is that with relatively little extra work on your part, you should be able to overcome the difficulties that you face. The diagnosis has helped you because it has pinpointed your exact difficulties.

7. What happens after a diagnosis of dyslexia?

You are entitled to more support. This is particularly true for children. A diagnosis should provide a fairly detailed list of your specific difficulties. Legally, if there is consensus, these difficulties need to supported. Otherwise you have no chance of fulfilling your potential and that is not in the best interest of the school or the state (if you are a child) or your employer (if you are an adult.)

CMS for Advanced Web Design and Management

Kostenlose Immobilienbewertung

The internet and the World Wide Web itself have come a long way since the mid to late 90s. Whereas the early days were all about static pages and nothing more amazing than text and colorful images, today’s web is dynamic and virtually jumps off the monitor screaming for interaction. The reasoning behind the enhancements is an evolution that has seen the emergence of various web development tools. A simple building utility can form the foundation for a decent website, server-side programming can give it dynamic appeal – the CMS can take your site to entirely different level altogether.

What is a CMS?

Short for content management system, a CMS is a type of software application used to create and manage large, dynamic websites. For the most part, a CMS contains two major components: the CMA and the CDA. The content management application or CMA, allows you to effectively manage website content with little to no experience in HTML coding. The content delivery application or CDA, is the component that allows you to update various areas of the website with ease, which is one of the biggest a attributes of a CMS. The features you get with a CMS vary from product to product, but most have the ability to publish web pages and organize content in a structural manner.

There is a lot you can do with a CMS and you will find that different people describe it in a different way. In regard to content, you can think of that as any text, image or object that can be incorporated into a website – all the basics you see on a business website or content-rich blog. A well-rounded, quality CMS will provide all the tools needed to share your content with visitors and internal staff as well. A reliable system should offer the following capabilities:

The ability to create multiple data-driven websites

User management

Full content management

Support for server-side programming

User authentication

Database access

Integrated search capability

Search engine optimization tools

Available Software

Some of the most popular websites are powered by content management systems and there are several to choose from. Believe it or not, a large number of systems are open-source applications that are free to use. Because most open-source projects give developers access to the source-code, a CMS can be modified to serve benefits to a specific webmaster. Drupal, Xoops, PHP-Nuke, TikiWiki, Mambo and the world renown Joomla are just a few of the many open-source systems on the market. As far as proprietary solutions go, the Microsoft Content Management Server is one of the most widely used systems on the market. This CMS is geared towards enterprise-class solutions and comes included with an array of features to support customer interaction.

More developers and webmasters are doing the CMS these days as the content management system has soared to popularity. Whether its creating a medium-sized site, a large business portal, high-traffic blog or thriving social network, a good CMS can provide you with all the tools needed to make it a success.

Need content management?  Check out the web hosting deal offered by BlueHost.  For as low as $6.95, you get world-class customer support along with some of the most powerful CMS software on the market.

Communication Skills – 2 – Clarifying

Kostenlose Immobilienbewertung

What we HEAR is not always what’s being said. What we SAY is not always what we mean. No wonder misunderstandings occur in our communication with people!

Quite often when we ‘hear’ what other people are saying we do so through our own insecurity, experiences, values, etc. This distorts what we’re hearing.

When we communicate with others, what we say is often not very clear. We use all kinds of routes around the subject rather than stating exactly what it is we mean. (It is possible to do this without engaging in confrontation!)

So – when someone is telling you something that’s important (to them) try repeating back to the person what you THINK they’ve said. This has three purposes; it let’s the other person know you’ve listened to what they’ve said; it lets you both know you have the same understanding about what has been said – or if there is a mis-understanding or mis-interpretation, you have the chance to correct it; it helps the other person to really hear it. Words or comments always sound different and have more impact when they are repeated to you (or said out loud to yourself) so it helps you to really hear the message.

Now let’s look at a scenario:

Person 1:

I’m so fed up with the arguments. There’s such an atmosphere – when you walk into the office you can cut it with a knife! I’ve started dreading going to work and on some mornings when I’m getting ready, I actually start feeling sick. She doesn’t seem to be affected by it at all but I just don’t enjoy my job any more.

Person 2:

So you’re finding it difficult to go to work because of this woman’s behaviour, and it sounds like you’re thinking about leaving?

Person 1:

No – that’s just it! I used to love my job and I still love the work. It’s just her that I’m finding difficult. What I want is for her to behave differently.

In this instance, while Person 1 seemed to be saying that she wanted to leave her job, in fact what she was saying that she wanted the situation in the office to change, so that she could once again enjoy her work.

The response by person 2 to these two situations would be quite different.

Sometimes the conversation is about something with which we are more directly affected, and this brings in even more emotional reactions.

Person 1: I know I don’t help much with the children but I’m at work all day. It’s such a rush in the mornings and by evening time I’m tired and there’s usually only about an hour before they go to bed. What you forget is that although my work isn’t physical it is very stressful! I usually spend part of the week-end doing jobs around the house or gardening and shopping with you, and I also play with the children as much as I can.

Person 2: So you don’t think my job looking after the children and the home is as difficult as yours and I shouldn’t complain?

Person 1: No – I’m not saying that, I think it is a difficult job which you do extremely well. What I’m trying to tell you is why I feel I can’t do much more.

Person 2: But you do think I’m being unfair to say you don’t spend enough time with the children?

While clarifying doesn’t actually sort out the problem, it does help to ensure that both parties have the same understanding about what the problem is. It also gives each the opportunity to agree or amend their understanding, and in this way enables them to move forward towards a resolution.

The difficulty is that when we hear something negative its human nature to take this as a criticism. This immediately puts us on the defensive and/or we start fighting back before really having a full understanding of the issue being presented to us.

Exercise:

When next someone is sharing something with you, or telling you how they feel about something, repeat it back (using your words not theirs) to ensure you’ve understood.

Note how sometimes you have misunderstood and try to work out why. For example, did you make an assumption? Did you put yourself in the other person’s shoes and think how you’d feel? Did you feel defensive?

Also note how sometimes the other person doesn’t express themselves clearly, perhaps because they’re not clear about what the real issue is.

Mean Spirited and Petty People – How to Deal With Them Effectively

Kostenlose Immobilienbewertung

Almost everyone has had to deal with someone who is petty and mean spirited. Sometimes these people come and go in your life quickly, but other times they’re a nuisance for a long time to come. For instance, you may have a family member, romantic relationship or a co-worker who is petty and mean spirited. Right now, they`re a fixture in your life, and you may have to put up with them for a very long time.

How can you do that, and stay sane at the same time? This article will deal with this question in great detail. By the time you’re finished reading this article, you’ll be better equipped to deal with people who want to cause you emotional pain.

Why do they do it?

You’ve probably asked yourself several times, why the other person feels the need to antagonize you. Why do they want to hurt you, or make you angry? The answer to these questions is varied. Most times, the other person is dealing with feelings of jealousy, remorse, anger, envy, distrust or spite. They may not understand why they do the things they do themselves.

The important thing to remember is that you can’t control their actions. However, you can control yours. Both you and the antagonist are responsible for your actions, and nothing can change this basic fact. In order to deal with someone who is petty and mean spirited, you have to control your reaction in order to reap the most benefit.

Don’t Get Sucked in to Their Game

Often, the antagonist wants you to blow up and get angry. If you do, you’re essentially rewarding their efforts. They walk away thinking you’re the mean one, and in a sense, you are. Anger can be a useful tool. Anger lets us know when we’re being mistreated, and spurs us to confront or defend ourselves against the onslaught, which can be useful. But when anger is given free reign, you become no better than the antagonist.

When dealing with someone who is petty or mean spirited, don’t get sucked into their game. Basically, they’re playing a power game, and every time you react in a negative manner, you’re allowing them to win.

Play it Cool

The best way to deal with a petty, mean spirited personality is to play it cool. You can and should stand up for yourself, but at the same time, you should do it in a positive manner. For example, if a love interest is treating you unfairly, you should inform them of what they’re doing calmly. Shouting, arguing and punching walls does nothing to further your cause. Instead, they can point to your actions, and use them against you.

Instead, inform them, and walk away. If you feel your rage mounting to the point of no return, simply walk away from the situation.

Let Them Fall Into Their Own Trap

When someone is baiting you, it’s easy to lose your temper. It’s basic human nature, really. But humans also have intellect, and you can use yours to your own advantage.

For instance, if a co-worker is baiting you at work, you can either react harshly, or show your fellow co-workers that you’re a better person than that. You’ll garner respect from your co-workers, and make the baiter both powerless and impotent. In effect, you can turn the tables on them. They’re the ones that will look bad, and deep down, they’ll know that they have treated you unfairly, whether they want to admit it to themselves or not.

Remove Them from Your Life

In some cases, you may have no choice but to remove a mean spirited person from your life altogether. It’s sad, really, but some people aren’t willing to work on their attitudes, and you have to learn to accept that. It’s better to remove the person (not associate with them any longer) than it is to be put under constant emotional pressure.

Seek Help

Often, a mean spirited person can be helped through intervention. A personal life coach or counsellor can often find the root cause, and help the person deal with their issues. There are a myriad of reasons why someone may be mean spirited, and like I mentioned before, they may not even be aware of the reasons why.

Pettiness and mean spiritedness are a part of life sometimes. In most scenarios, you will be powerless to stop the other person from acting the way they are. However, you can take comfort in the fact that you won’t allow them to drag you down with them. In the long run, by being a better individual, and working on this area of your personality, you’ll be the happier person in the long run.

Happiness is up to each and every one of us. We control our surroundings for the most part. Taking personal responsibility for your actions is the road to happiness.

What Is A Copywriter And What Does A Copywriter Do?

Kostenlose Immobilienbewertung

A copywriter is a person tasked to write the text used for advertisements in magazines, newspapers, television, radio and other kinds of media. A copywriter may also be assigned to come up with the words for press releases, informational or promotional pamphlets, and other promotional materials. A copywriter may also be tasked to rewrite or edit existing materials. Thus, a copywriter’s job is a very flexible and potentially exciting career in the wide world of advertising and marketing.

Where Does a Copywriter Work?

A copywriter usually works in advertising firms, retail stores, and marketing companies in a metropolitan area. The working environment of a copywriter is usually found to be quite hectic, which makes creativity under pressure necessary. Advertising is known to be a very fast-paced field where many crises can suddenly occur. A copywriter is usually pressured by short deadline and successive assignments daily. A copywriter is often asked for several revisions at the last minute. This job is therefore not for the weak-hearted or the unengaged.

How Fulfilling Is a Copywriter’s Job?

Novice and assistant copywriters usually start off with an annual salary of about $30,000 to $35,000 working it up to some $40,000 when they become full-pledged. A senior copywriter may eventually earn some $100,000 a year and about $125,000 if he or she becomes promoted as copywriting chief. A copywriter has the potential to later become creative director and earn as much as $200,000 annually.

A copywriter, like most other workers, is usually required to work 40 hours a week, but it is usually expected to have a lot of overtime in this career. Fortunately overtime is compensated accordingly. A copywriter becomes most busy during key times depending on the nature of their firm’s trade – department store copywriters work most during holiday and sale seasons, advertising copywriters work a lot during big advertising campaigns.

Many copywriters today are privileged with profit-sharing schemes afforded by their company. A copywriter also gets the usual benefits such as paid vacations and holidays, pension plans, health care, hospitalization insurance and life insurance. Copywriting can be quite a rewarding job.

How to Become a Copywriter?

A copywriter is expected to be skilled in coming up with great advertising ideas as well as putting them to paper in a very articulate and effective manner. A copywriter should also have a good grasp of layout and typography because visuals are also very important in advertising.

Most advertising agencies require aspiring copywriters to have a solid background in the field, preferably working for at least three years in the business. Copywriters are of course expected to have obtained a college degree, usually in liberal arts, communications, business management, and marketing. A lot of copywriters take college courses that combine creative writing with marketing and this prepares them well for a good copywriting career.

To get hired as a copywriter, one has to be able to combine a solid formal education with an active writing experience. Most copywriters not only had degrees in communications or business, but they actually wrote while studying whether in school publications or community newsletters. A good idea is to present well-written works such as essays and articles.

Are there Opportunities for Growth for a Copywriter?

There is much room for growth for a copywriter. Copywriters working in department stores can become chief of copywriting or fashion coordinator and work their way to become division manager and even advertising chief. Copywriters working in advertising agencies may be promoted as copy supervisor, advancing to copy chief, and then account executive, and ultimately to creative directorship. A copywriter’s job can indeed be quite fulfilling.

In the growing world of business and advertising a copywriter can find a great home with many opportunities for earning and career expansion. Some people undermine the work of copywriters merely because their job seems to be placed at the bottom of the bureaucracy. However a copywriter with the right determination and skill can definitely work his or her way to the top the way their more business-oriented peers do.

Copywriting can be a very fulfilling career for those who have the right skills for the job. If you are full of bright ideas and know how to write well then you might want to try out becoming a copywriter.

Gulliver’s Travel As a Symbolical Work

Kostenlose Immobilienbewertung

Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) was an author, journalist, and political activist. He is best known for his satirical novel Gulliver’s Travel and satirical essay on the Irish famine, “A Modest Proposal.” ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ is a book of fantasy, satire and political allegory, and it is much liked in all ages. He wrote Gulliver’s Travels in 1725, and it was published in 1726. The book got a great success throughout the British Empire and earned the titles of writer and commentator of great quality and reputation for the author. In this book, the travel of Gulliver, a surgeon on a merchant ship, is made to four imaginary countries. So, the book is divided into four parts. His first travel is to Lilliput whose inhabitants are about six inches tall. His second visit is to Brobdingnag, the country of the giants. His third visit is to the Islands of Laputa and Legedo, inhabited by philosophers and scientists, keeping love for music and mathematics. His last visit is to the land of the Honyhnhnms and Yahoos. They are rational and civilized horses, and the yahoos are unreasonable and bestial human beings, completely dirty.

Before discussing the symbols of his work, ‘The Gulliver’s Travel’, we should know something about the literary term ‘symbol’. The word’ Symbol’ is derived from Late Latin word ‘Symbolum’ means token, sign or emblem. It is, indeed, the ornament of literature. The author uses it to expose all the hidden things or the philosophy of work honestly to the readers, as they may not face to any difficulties to be understood. If such thing happened, the work would not be interesting and helpful for representing the age. It is evident that Jonathan Swift has used symbols to convey his ideas to the readers by making it easier with the help of it. Keeping in view all things, we can say that a symbol is something that stands for something else. In Gulliver’s Travels, everything stands for something else because it is written for the purpose of criticizing contemporary philosophies and customs. Nearly every person in this book stands either for a historical figure or for an idea.

Let’s survey the symbols used in his work, The Gulliver’s Travel’.

In the first book, Swift narrates Gulliver’s visit to Lilliputians, the six- inch inhabitants. They represent the symbol of extreme pride of mankind. The author represents the race ironically. He finds that they are small creatures with small minds, but they are the stock of backbiting and conspiracy; despite it, they consider themselves grand. Gulliver comes under the spell of their vain-glory and is made credulous by their threats of punishment, although the race has no real physical power over him. Gulliver learns more about Lilliputians’ culture and the great difference in size between him and the race. It is explicit satire of British government. Gulliver finds Lilliputian government officials are chosen by their skill at rope dancing which is recognized arbitrary and ridiculous. It symbolizes England’s system of political appointment that is arbitrary. The difference in their sizes symbolizes the importance of physical power. Gulliver can crush the Lilliputians by walking carelessly, but they don’t realize their own insignificance that symbolizes their small-mindedness. They keep Gulliver tied up, believing that they can control him. Swift symbolizes it humanity’s hollow claim to power and significance.

Swift is very careful in case of his satire and using symbols. The articles signed by Gulliver for gaining his freedom are in formal and self- important language symbolizes meaningless and self- contradictory piece of paper, because Gulliver is the symbol of great strength and power. He can violate all bonds for his own safety. The history of the conflict between Lilliput and Blefuscu is ridiculous. The High-Heels and the Low-Heels symbolize the Whigs and Tories of English politics. Lilliput and Blefuscu symbolize England and France. The violent conflict between Big Endians and Little Endians symbolizes the Protestant Reformation and the centuries of warfare between Catholics and Protestants. So, European history is as a series of brutal wars over meaningless and arbitrary disagreements. The conflict’ how a person chooses to crack an egg’ is a symbol of silliness and triviality. It is ridiculous and unreasonable can be concluded that there is no right or wrong way to worship. Swift suggests that the Christian Bible can be interpreted in more than one way. It is ridiculous for people to fight over how to interpret it when one is uncertain that one’s interpretation is right and others are wrong.

The Lilliputian Emperor is the symbol of tyranny, cruelty and corruption, and he is obsessed with ceremony showing a changeless symbol of bad government. It is also a biting satire on George I, the King of England (from 1714 to 1727), during much of Swift’s career. He has no admiration for the king. The Lilliputian empress stands for Queen Anne, who blocked Swift’s advancement in the Church of England, having taken offense at some of his earlier satires. Gulliver’s urination on her quarter represents Swift’s work ‘A Tale of a Tub’. The empress’s disgust at Gulliver’s urination is similar to Queen Anne’s criticism of Swift’s work and her efforts to make his prospects limited in the Church of England. Actually, his urination symbolizes his ability to control the Lilliputians. It illustrates the importance of physical power. Gulliver disobeys the emperor’s order to destroy the fleet of Blefuscu signs the feelings of his responsibility toward all beings. Gulliver finds himself in a position to change the Lilliputians society for ever. There is a reference of army between Lilliput and Blefuscu symbolizes their patriotic glories with such proudly marching of armies. The Lilliputian emperor’s request to Gulliver to serve as a kind of makeshift Arch of Triumph for the troops to pass is a pathetic reminder that their grand parade is supremely silly. The war with Blefuscu is the symbol of absurdity that comes out from wounded vanity. Hence the Lilliputians symbolize lost human pride and it indicates Gulliver’s inability to diagnose it correctly.

In book II (Part II), Jonathan Swift narrates Gulliver’s visit to giants’ island. Here his walking is not symbol of danger for the Borbdingnagians as it was in his visit to Lilliput because the situation is in reverse. Borbdingnagians represent English ways. After a short period as a working freak, Gulliver is rescued by the king and the queen, and he lives a life of considerable comfort at court. He spends much of his time learning the language and talking with the king about life in England. The king emerges as a fair, merciful ruler, very sympathetic and humane man. The Borbdingnagians symbolize the private, personal and physical side of human beings, when examined up close. In Lilliputians, Gulliver symbolized god-like power, but here he is the symbol of slave and puppet to perform various tricks for paying spectators. The Borbdingnagians do not symbolize negative human characteristics. The behaviour of Borbdingnagians is different and seems to be more civilized than Gulliver. The good will of the queen toward Gulliver and common sense views are found. His enslavement is virtual that symbolizes fundamental humanity of Borbdingnagians. So, it is similar to Europeans who become happy to make a quick jump when the opportunity arises. He is a golden puppet in their hands, and he is given a comfortable cradle with the protection from the rats.

In this book, we find a dwarf who is unable to gain the power that generally accompanies great physical size, but he gets distinctiveness which symbolizes the politics of those who attempt to achieve power not through physical strength but through their distinctiveness that is exactly immoral and ordinary. The ladies and their flaws symbolize imperfection as examined up through close enough scrutiny. Gulliver’s microscopic view of flies and flesh symbolizes the discovery of microscope. The late seventeenth century saw the first publication of books, containing magnified images. Such microscope views knew levels of intricacy and fault. In his eyes, the tiny size of Europeans is matched by their moral weakness. Gulliver’s offer of gun powder represents imperfection of the British. The king’s refusal symbolizes this race more human than the other races. It means that, in this society, the vices are minimized as much as possible. Although this race has achieved a huge moral achievement, it is not yet perfect.

Gulliver’s third visit is to Lupta that shows Swift’s attack on science and abstract knowledge. The Laputans are the symbol of the stupidity of theoretical knowledge irrelevant to human life. During his voyage, his ship was attacked by the pirates. He spoke with them in Dutch language, but later on his exposure of heathen more merciful than Christian symbolized Swift’s religious belief. In this visit, power is implemented not through physical size but through technology. The floating Island is both a formidable weapon and an allegorical image represents the symbol of the government and the people. In this visit, he narrates the Laputans’ rigid devotion to abstract theory, language, architecture and geography symbolizes non-humanity. The scientists are engaged to extract sun beams from cucumber and to turn excrement back into food and to turn ice into gun powder. The architect are engaged to design way to build houses from the roof down that symbolizes impossibility and purposelessness, representing scientific society founded in 1660. Robert Boyle, Robert Hooke and Isaac Newton were all members of the Royal society. Its main task was to use the new techniques of science to improve the craft etc. The theorist ruined a country by forcing its people to follow their fresh and wholly useless methods.

Gulliver’s escaping to Glubbdubdrib symbolizes Swift’s attempt to challenge the standards of abstract learning. Overall, the Ancient Greeks and the Romans were understood truly virtuous, where as European to somewhat were degenerated. Apart from it, the Struldburgs of Luggnagg symbolize human desires. They seek eternal life and primary benefits of old age. Indeed, the wisdom of the old age can be used to help humanity, but the immortal Struldburgs grow only more prejudiced and selfish. The struldbrugs’immense sadness and the emptiness of Gulliver’s desire to acquire riches symbolize Swift’s condemnation of such self-absorbed goals as the state of small minds irrelevant to good society.

Jonathan Swift narrates the fourth voyage of Gulliver to Honyhnhnms, representing an ideal of rational existence. Here, man is supposed to be yahoo, and he is subjected to the animals. It represents that the animals are more civilized or a model citizen. Their society is safe from crimes, poverty, disagreement and unhappiness. They are unaware of passion, joy and ecstatic love. The Honyhnhnms appeal to reason rather than any holy writing as the criterion for proper action. They do not use force but only strong exhortation. Gulliver’s entire grief suggests that they made an impact on him greater than that of any other society he has visited.

Indeed, it is a bitter criticism on human beings. Jonathan Swift chose mankind in all three visits, but here he chose animals. Indeed, the Honyhnhnms represent man’s wrong and ostentatious arrogance in the power of reason. Gulliver’s making canoe by stitching to gather the skins of yahoos for escaping from the island represents his swift cynicism for man kind. If we, further, discuss it, it is the main weapon of the cynic or satirist to improve the mankind because every satirist is a reformer by heart.

Indeed, it is the view of his book in nut shell. His work needs more attention and more time. It hides a great treasure of the relevant age. It is acknowledged that his criticism is swift and hard, but he has not used to exploit the human beings but to correct them by picking out their follies.
